SAVING LIVES AT SEA

TIME IS LIFE
- 250.000 people die from drowning worldwide every year.
- 400 deaths occur annually in Italy alone.
- 60.000 rescue operations every year in Italy
- 3-5 minutes is the time required for a save with traditional systems
- 30-90 seconds is the time in which a person can begin to lose strength once in distress
- 2-3 minutes is the time before loss of consciousness
- The 90% some interventions take place in a stretch between 20 to 100 metres from the coast.
The real problem is not reaching the victim — it’s reaching them in time.
WHAT NEEDS TO IMPROVE
Sea rescue still relies on passive equipment, originally designed over 100 years ago (rescue boards and lifebuoys), which are poorly suited for rapid intervention—especially in challenging conditions.
Yet when a person is in the water, time is the decisive factor.
Current tools help people stay afloat, but they do not help rescuers reach them quickly.
Rescue systems must evolve.

Buoyancy and Propulsion
SEA ANGEL is a rescue device that integrates buoyancy and propulsion to:
- halve intervention time
- reduce the physical effort required by the rescuer
- increase the success rate of rescue operations
SEA ANGEL transforms the traditional rescue buoy from a passive device into an active rescue system.
THE CHALLENGE
SEA ANGEL introduces a new generation of sea rescue devices designed to:
- increase coastal safety
- protect the lives of rescuers
- reduce the risk of drowning mortality
Reducing response times, even by a few seconds, means saving lives.

THE PATENT
The technological heart of SEA ANGEL is a new, patented pneumatic propulsion system based on compressed air. Unlike electric or thermal propulsion systems, which require energy conversion processes that can be subject to failures or activation delays, compressed air represents readily available and immediately usable energy. At the moment of rescue, the device generates instantaneous thrust without the need for ignition, combustion, or electrical conversion, ensuring:
- Immediate activation
- ease of use
- Reduction of possible causes of failure
- Maximum environmental sustainability (zero emissions)
Pneumatic propulsion means reliability..

LA ROAD MAP
PHASE 1 – Innovative Start-up | Tuscany Region
Thanks to the funding allocated to innovative start-ups by the Tuscany Region, as part of the Programme ERDF 2021–2027, was established SEA ANGEL Srl.
Over the course of the 2026–2027 the first prototype of the device will be developed and manufactured in collaboration with FILLIPI SHIPYARDS.
PHASE 2 – Crowdfunding/experimentation
In 2027, the contribution of multiple supporting partners will allow the launch of the INITIAL OPERATIONAL TESTING along the Italian coastline, through the production and deployment of 24 devices developed in collaboration with FILLIPI SHIPYARDS and the rescue organization WEST COOAST LIFEGUARD in Donoratico.
